| | What were your favorite childhood toys? | | Mine were My Little Pony (especially the fuzzy ones), She-ra (Queen Angelica & Glimmer were the best), Jem, Strawberry Shortcake, and I loved my cousins Barbie and the Beat Midge Doll. | |
| | ** old** toys** | | Lincoln logs (wood ones) legos that didn't come with instructions for building specific items, Tinker toys, Slinkies, Easy bake ovens. These are just a few of the toys I recall from my childhood that seem to be making a bit of a comeback. So take that Nintendo! My kids are using their own imagintions, not yours!! | |
| | Teacher Charged After Takes Loaded Gun to School... | | This happened at a local ELEMENTARY school in my area. A teacher's 11 year old son took a loaded handgun and a box with 50 bullets to school and was showing it off to other students when another teacher saw it. The mother was charged and convicted although she claimed the guns were "not my department" and she couldn't keep track of the firearms in the house any more than she kept track of his tinker-toys. From the time of the incident until her conviction two days ago, a total of 22 months, she had been placed on paid suspension by the school district but after the confiction her status was changed to unpaid and she may lose her teaching certificate. She MAY??? She had to be forcibly taken from the courtroom following her conviction and she was screaming and carrying on like a banshee. This is a small rural district, not some inner-city school. How scary is this, knowing this woman was responsible for teaching our kids? My daughter went to the same school this took place but it was before this woman was a teacher but I have numersous nieces and nephews that have had her. UGH!!! What do you think, is this something no one is going to be able to defend or what?

| | Riding the Idiot-Proof Wave | | We’re trying.
Given the advances in technology, through innovation and invention, we’re trying to make life Idiot-proof.
This is where I feel my age because the Idiot-proof wave has passed me by.
I am still trying to figure out how to set my dashboard clock back the hour I was supposed to when daylight savings time ended back in mid-November.
I’ve resisted the siren’s call of technology because I like to consider myself an Old School kind of guy. I still don’t consult road maps when I’m driving much less these new-fangled GPS systems they’ve come out with.
Common Men don’t use road maps.
Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett never consulted a road map, why should I?
But it bears asking, how much of exploration was simply getting lost with style?
Did Columbus discover America or did he just get really good and lost?
We like to keep our lives simple, which is why we surround ourselves with all of these complicated gadgets that we never figure out how to use.
If it comes with a remote we’ve got to have it.
I had this wristwatch once.
Only they didn’t call it a wristwatch, but instead a chronometer. This thing fit like a garbage can lid strapped to my forearm and came with a...
| | Did you grow up with dangerous toys like Tinker Toys? | | Can you think of any dangerous toys
that you grew up with? I was just thinking back over all the toys
that I grew up with like Pick up sticks and Tinker toys.
Remember those? Do you realize how dangerous those things are? It's a stick!
A kid could poke their eye out with that.
Or get it stuck in an ear.Who thought of this stuff! What's your thoughts on this?
