| Is a Talking Book as good as the written one? | | If you listen to a taling book after having read the same book with exactly the same words, does it conjure up a different way of interpretating what the story portays, or just a more pleasurable way of experiencing what the author has given us? | |
| | What do you wish you would have known when you were younger that you know now? | | everything.... there is so much stuff that I know now that I didn't know as a kid, and I'm not just Talking Book smarts that has nothing to do with it, but life experiences, I've made so many mistakes and met a lot of messed up people and if I would have know this when I was younger I probably would have been better off, but then again things happened for a reason, and i have learned from my mistakes, but just imagine if we had the type of street smarts as we have now as a kid, we probably would have stayed out of a lot of trouble. | |
| | Audio Books versus Printed Books | | I used to hate audio books. I thought they were for lazy lazy lazy people. I couldn't understand why someone would go pick up an audiobook, or download one to their ipod and listen to a story instead of reading a good book. There is nothing better than reading a great book. Until recently. My mother in law had a stroke a couple of months back and is now unable to enjoy reading. I purchased a couple of audiobooks for her and she thinks they're great. I also listened to one and though it wasn't too bad, was quite relaxing in fact.
For anyone who prefers adio over the real thing, please tell me why, and also why other who prefer reading why they don't use audiobooks.
| | What time does the library open? | | I wanted to go to the library today. I figured it would open around 9 or 10. I called to make sure. Apparently my library doesn't open until 1:30 today! Ridiculous!!I think it's because of all the budget cuts. Ugh!What time does your library open? Is your library suffering from budget cuts too? | |
| | So, I told you about the cabinet we got | | Today the roomie was going to pack up the old bookshelf and small cabinet that used to be where we wanted to put the new one.She started packing, and emptying, and moving things. When the other roommate got up - this being a day off - she was surprised to see what had been done.In the early afternoon, the roomie asked if she would sweep the floor where they had been...Well, she never just "sweeps" if she has time and energy and SPACE and will see a reward, she will do it RIGHT.And she did. She swept. She got down on her knees and cleaned under the other cabinet where the TV and fridge are and cleaned under it. She mopped. She pulled the little table out from between the cabinet that's staying and cleaned there (and discovered that the cats had... damaged the extension cords that she had run the c-pap, talking book machine, lamp and clock off - damaged as in "shocking!"So, they called me and asked for me to pick up a long extension cord - because they had a power strip - and dinner on my way home.
I got the cord, but when I got home, I learned (as I honestly expected) we really needed ANOTHER power strip. So I wanted to move the cabinet into place and that...
| | Oliver was worried | | Wednesday night before Thanksgiving, I took the roomie out to her folks. This was to either save me from driving her out in the morning or her dad coming to get her in the morning, but it did mean that she wasn't home.I went to bed a little after 10, with my normal number of cats - like 7 of them, that's Scamp, Ping, Frankie, Taj and a few that I don't know who they are because they are down at the foot of the bed.Well, when I woke up to roll over later, Oliver came running into the room, making his "worried" sounds. He lay down with me, groomed me a bit before I went back to sleep. Thursday night, when we got home from the roomie's folks - she has to work on Friday - Oliver was ALL over her. When we went to bed, he had been making worried noises and he was "following" her hands so she was having trouble putting on her cpap mask and getting her talking book machine one with all his help. So, if he's this upset about 1 night, how is he going to be when she goes out to her folks place after surgery? He was an absolute pest last Feb after her little hospital visit, both for me at home until she came home and then to her when she got home. And she's going to be... | |
| | They offered me a beer... | | I went to put a talking book out for the roommate this afternoon and some of our neighbor's friends were talking.Well, its not that I'm not friendly - well, actually I'm not real friendly, but that's another story - but I don't often go over and chat with these guys. However, I had noticed that the for sale sign was gone from the crazy lady's house next door and I felt I ought to mention it. So I went over and was talking to these guys. Now, these are very nice guys and while we were talking, one of them drove up and got out with a new case of beer. He pulled one out and offered it to me.Now, I don't like beer. I have never liked beer. In the last 38 years I've probably put away 1 whole can of beer - in 3 tries and because there wasn't any thing else cold to drink around - and as soon as the chill went off, it was beyond unpleasant, right to nasty.I'm not saying that other people don't like the stuff, I just never got a taste for it.I have to say that I hated kissing my folks good night when they were drinking beer because I didn't like the smell, so my dislike for the stuff started early. Now, I know my friends across the pond like their stout (and one... | |
