| Winter! | | When it snows do you shovel the snow or use a snowblower? | |
| | | Snowblower VS good old fashioned Shovel | | There are good points and bad points to each of these. Using a snowblower will clear a path quite fast. Using a shovel uses muscle and burns calories. It is good exercise. But, many people suffer heart attacks while shoveling snow. The reason being that they do not warm up before doing this task. The snow is heavy and people overexert themselves putting strain on the heart. Approach shoveling as you would any type of exercise. Warm up first. Take it easy. Don't shovel the snow as if you were in a competition. | |
| | yard king snow blower | | does anyone know how to adjust the V-belt on a yard king snow blower? I don't have thee instruction manual.... | |
| | Rule for shoveling snow- how frequently? | | The older gentleman across the street shovels his snow practically all day long. If not by hand, he gets his gas powered snow blower, and does it. I shoveled this morning, about an hour and a half before I took my son to a therapy appointment. There were probably 3" on the ground. Well, by the time we were ready to go, there was at least another inch on the ground! Now there's a lot more, and the top layer is ice. ARGH. I don't have strong arms anyway, and this sucks. LOL Am I supposed to shovel my sidewalk if there's 1", 2"'s, 3"? or what? | |
| | People on the East Coast please be careful!!! | | It is a Snow Blast everywhere. Ohio, New York, Pa. Everwhere on this side of the world. Please Don't be out shoveling and get sick. I heard this morning that someone had a heart attack. so be careful, My husband can't get his Snow Blower out of the drive-way, we are Snowed in 20 inches. they say this has been the worst in 15 years. so what are you doing to handle all this snow? they don't want people to go out. but acually it's good to go out to leave a trail, in the streets. main streets, your street. Main plows haven't may it on are street yet. people are slowly venturing out. | |
| | Any Inventors Here? I Need Your Help! | | It's starting to snow here again. Even though it hasn't snowed that much this year, I'm tired of shoveling snow, putting salt down and cranking up the snow blower. There has to be a better way. My idea is for someone to invent a thin, waterproof and durable heated pad, that you can just roll out on your driveway and sidewalk before the snow storm hits. All you would have to do is plug it in and set the thermometer to a temperature that melts the snow and keep your driveway and sidewalk safe.Just imagine never having to buy a shovel, salt or gas for your snowblower again. It would be a more efficient and safe alternative. Why do you think no one has ever marketed something like this?I love the snow, but hate shoveling it.What do you think?Lloyd | |
| | About snow I hate the snow Don't you | | This joke was sent to me awhile ago but I thought it would be cruel to share it when you had shoveling to do so if you are having spring now maybe it will be funnyDiary of a Snow Shoveler... December 8: 6:00 pm . It started to snow. The first snow of the season and the wife and I took our cocktails and sat for hours by the window watching the huge soft flakes drift down from heaven. It looked like a Grandma Moses print. So romantic we felt like newlyweds again. I love snow!December 9: We woke to a beautiful blanket of crystal white snow covering every inch of the landscape. What a fantastic sight! Can there be a more lovely place in the whole world? Moving here was the best idea I've ever had. Shoveled for the first time in years and felt like a boy again. I did both our driveway and the sidewalk. This afternoon the snow plow came along and covered up the sidewalk and closed in the driveway, so I got to shovel again. What a perfect life!December 12: The sun has melted all our lovely snow. Such a disappointment. My neighbor tells me not to worry, we'll definitely have a white Christmas. No snow on Christmas would be awful! Bob says we'll have so much snow by the end... | |
| | What happened to neighbors helping neighbors? | | I live in a very small community. There's probably only around 200 people here. Everyone knows everyone. More importantly (to this post) is the fact that everyone knows I'm living here alone with a baby. We just got hit with a snow storm that left a foot of heavy, wet snow. It drifted even deeper in some places. I don't have a driveway so I have to park just off the edge of the road. Right now my van is buried up over the front bumper, the snow is piled higher than the bottom of the doors. There is no way I can get it out. I also have a long side walk just to get out there which of course isn't cleared either. I've seen every single one of my male neighbors out shoveling and plowing and snow blowing their walks and driveways but not a single one came to see if I needed help. It's not that I physically can't do it myself but they all know I have a small baby. Do they think I should just leave him in the house alone while I go out to shovel?! I just don't see how they can all just go about their business without any concern for me. It would take all of 5 minutes with a plow, maybe 10 or 15 minutes with a snow blower. It's not like I'm expecting much...or am I? I thought neighbors... | |
| | Transitions | | You can sure tell it's that time again in the north here.In the evening, you can go out on the poorch and blow lightly, and see your breath. Doesn't take very much and you can blow a cloud some six feet into the air.The frost is nipping at the plants and leaves on the trees so that they are taking on the autumn colours. But the daytime, while starting off slowly, makes up for it in the afternoon.Doors and windows open to suck up as much warmth as possible before having to close everything off for the night.Definately feels like a nice summer day out there now. But of course, up here we all know that winter is only a hoary blow away. Snow is normally making a visit about a month and a little bit from now. There are plenty of stories of children collecting candy at the end of October in snowsuits because it was so cold. Somehow I won't be surprised if it does it again this year after the wimpy summer this area got.I have my snow blower ready and am looking forward to that this year. Last winter I was driving truck through the mountains on icy roads. I'm kinda glad I'm missing it this year...Anyway, the transition is uncomfortable. Would that you could just... | |
