I gave you life, but cannot live it for you.
I can give you directions, but I cannot be there to lead you.
I can take you to church, but I cannot make you believe.
I can teach you right from wrong, but I cannot always decide for you.
I can buy you beautiful clothes, but I cannot make you beautiful inside.
I can offer you advice, but I cannot accept it for you.
I can give you love, but I cannot force it upon you.
I can teach you to share, but I cannot make you unselfish.
I can teach you respect, but I cannot force you to show honor.
I can advise you about friends, but cannot choose them for you.
I can advise you about sex, but I cannot keep you pure.
I can tell you about alcohol & drugs, but I can't say "No" for you.
I can tell you about lofty goals, but I can't achieve them for you.
I can teach you about kindness, but I can't force you to be gracious.
I can pray for you, but I cannot make you walk with God.
I can tell you how to live, but I cannot give you eternal life.
I can love you with unconditional love all of my life... and I will
| | Reflections on Life | | George Carlin's Reflections on Life:1. Never raise your hands to you kids. It leaves your groin unprotected.2. I'm not into working out. My philosophy is no pain, no pain.3. I'm in shape. Round is a shape.4. I'm desperately trying to figure out why Kamikaze pilots wore helmets.5. Do illiterate people get the full effect of alphabet soup?6. I've always wanted to be somebody, but I should have been more specific.7. Ever notice when you blow in a dog's face he gets mad at you, but when you take him in a car he sticks his head out the window.8. Ever notice that anyone going slower than you is an idiot, but going faster is a maniac?9. You have to stay in shape. My mother started walking 5 miles a day when she was 60. She's 97 now and we have no idea where she is!10. I have six locks on my door, all in a row. When I go out, I lock every other one. I figure no matter how long somebody stands there picking the locks, they are always locking three of them.11. One out of every three Americans is suffering from some form of mental illness. Think of two of your best friends. If they are OK, then it must be... | |

| | My home town: with reflections on society. | | If you wish to read, I hope you enjoy. If you wish not to, that's fine.London is a small, grand city. Or rather, two small, grand cities: the old and older city in the east, settled by our Roman friends, presided over by the uncontestable beauty of St Paul's, and made ever more prosperous by the keen and avaricious mercantile men who think and labour there; and the city in the west, younger than its brother but venerable enough, rooted in the authority of the Westminster, and home to the long dead affluent. To the north it is bounded by such marginals as Paddington, Marylebone, St John's Wood (the only tube station to share no letter with the word 'mackerel'), and the now disreputable Kings Cross. The river Thames delineates the southern border and anything south of that may be safely ignored as far as our two small, grand cities are concerned.Of course statisticians will cry foul at this geography, and point out that London occupies a vastly greater area (varying according to each report), is home to many millions of people (again varying and probably un-knowable), and whose boundaries stretch ever further and in all directions. I cannot argue with these knowledgeable... | |
| | | Career Reflections | | Some people are lucky because they've always known what they want to do with the rest of their lives. Others can go through life without ever really discovering what it is that drives them. Some people have career;others have a job. Which do you have? do you enjoy it? or do you dream of something else? A career is something that you are passionate about, something you have either devoted your life 24/7 (but because you enjoy it so much,it doesnt feel like it), while a job is just something that pays the monthly bills. Does your job make you happy or do you roll over and go back to sleep the minute you wake up, dreading another day at the office? How do you get that zing back into your job? if you feel stuck in a dead-end-job,how do you get out of it? | |
| | Who else can recognise their own reflections? | | Aside from human beings, do you think there are other animals or creatures who can recognise their own reflections when they see themselves in the mirror?
One good friend of mine told me that there are monkeys, specifically the CHimps, who can recognise themselves especially if they see a mirror in front of them. It made me laugh because I can't believe it. So, they know how ugly they are? lol
| | Reflections | | My dog went crazy this morning and almost attacked my tv. It was turned off and he was just sitting there staring at it. When I moved he must have seen the reflection becaue he stood up, started growling and barking and the hair on his neck stood up...all while still staring at the tv. He also kept trying to sniff it but everytime I would move he would freak out. Anyone else have a dog that does this??? | |
| | Reflections on the "best things in life". | | There's a song title (and, I believe an old saying too) that says: "The best (or 'finest', or 'finer') things in life are free!" According to the song (by Luther Vandross) "true love comes for free" (see this link: http://www.lyricsandsongs.com/ksong/351454.html).
I think the original adage might have been referring to things like the air we breathe, the sunshine we're warmed by, the beauty in Nature all around us...etc., etc. (which, in my opinion, speaks of "true Love-from above").
There are some today who dispute the "free" part, and rightly so. Today we may have to "pay" for clean air, clean water, "safe" sunshine, etc., because we've not been very careful to consider our environment over the years, so Mother Nature is struggling to keep up...SHE wants to keep things "pure" and "free".
It occurs to me that we've sadly allowed "way too much water to go over the dam" to really get back the purity that Nature "wants to provide" if left to her own devices. And, these days, even some of our leaders are not interested in addressing what mankind is doing or has done to this planet we all call "home".
Sometimes I get quite irritated to think that "greed" and "love of money"...
| | Lenten REFLECTIONS... | | What will you lose if you lose God?
Reflect before reading the next line.....What will God lose if He loses you?
Quietly reflect again.....You'd probably say, you will lose a lot and God will lose nothing! So why does God send His Son to save you and do all things for you? He seems so afraid to lose you, right?BLESSED HOLY WEEK EVERYONE!
