| Howard wins NL MVP award | | PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Ryan Howard joked he may resort to stealing bases to cut down on his intentional walks next season. Despite seeing fewer pitches to hit down the stretch, Howard still managed to have an incredible season at the plate and became the second player voted Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player in consecutive years. Howard almost single-handedly thrust the Philadelphia Phillies into playoff contention after a midseason roster purge, and finished with a .313 average, 58 homers and 149 RBIs. The All-Star first baseman walked 108 times, including 33 intentional passes. He didn't go deep in the final nine games and walked 11 times in that span. "Being the competitor I am, you want to go out there and try to get hits," Howard said after beating out 2005 NL MVP Albert Pujols for the award Monday. "When teams take the bat out of your hands, it's a little tough, but that's when you hope the rest of your team can come in and pick you up." A soft-spoken big man with an even bigger swing, Howard's season defied convention. Babe Ruth, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Ted Williams and countless other Hall of Famers didn't have as many homers or RBIs... | |

Fathers of 1900 didn't have it nearly as good as fathers of today; but they did have a few advantages:In 1900, fathers prayed their children would learn English.
Today, fathers pray their children will speak English. In 1900, a father's horsepower meant his horses.
Today, it's the size of his minivan. In 1900, if a father put a roof over his family's head, he was a success.
Today, it takes a roof, deck, pool, and 4-car garage. And that's just the vacation home.In 1900, a father waited for the doctor to tell him when the baby arrived.
Today, a father must wear a smock, know how to breathe, and make sure film is in the video camera. In 1900, fathers passed on clothing to their sons.
Today, kids wouldn't touch Dad's clothes if they were sliding naked down an icicle. In 1900, fathers could count on children to join the family business.

| | Baseball Card of Derek Jeter has President Bush and Mickey Mantle in the photo! | | Have you heard about this crazy baseball card that has President George W. Bush and hall of fame baseball player mickey Mantle pictured in the background? They have obviously been added into the original photo by an employee. Topps said that they didn't notice the alteration before the cards went to print. They plan on re-issuing a corrected version of the card soon. These cards have been selling on eBay today for as high as $300.Do you think this was really a mistake or do you think they are just trying to hype up their product? | |

| | What's the best bargain you have ever found | | Today we went to a yard sale at a church, I walked away with a very old book with engravings in it and a
Westinghouse Roaster that is in excellent condition, for 25 cents, and a huge box of t-shirts....
My total damage today was 3.00 they were closing down and told me to go ahead and take the shirts that I wanted, I got over 30 shirts that were just given to me, my kids have NO excuse now to say they don't have any shirts.
So for a yard sale, I'm talking I walked away telling my son, who broke my last roasting oven, that if we kept this, he owed me the 5.00 price tag it hand on it, as a finders fee, for saving him from buying me one on ebay, and paying shipping charges.
I know these are energy hogs, but I love them as they are bigger and solidly built (until your 14 year old son breaks it).
Tell me about your greatest deal yard sale or retail bargain!Mooch | |
| | I Love AC | | I was very skeptical about associated content because of stuff i heard about it. I have heard mostly that they are very picky about the content that is submitted and don't publish a lot; I found it to be different.I did one article and i sort of got busy with life and gave up on AC. I was going through my email one day to see that i had to confirm a performance payment of $1.56. So i logged on and i had over 100 page views for one article. I was amazed!I've tried a lot of online writing and i never get paid or get a lot of views. So i decided to start writing for upfront payment. I just got an offer on a very short review i did on Mickey Mantle's Restaurant in NYC. I was offered $3.54 cents! Not bad for something that took me 5 min and then about 5 more of proofreading.I have 2 more which are being reviewed for upfront payment. I cant wait to see how they compare to my Mickey Mantle's Review. Between Mylot and AC i should generate a decent amount of extra cash. | |
