| | | CHILD’S DOLLHOUSE BRINGS OVER $200,000-HAVE YOU EVER SOLD ANYTHING AT AUCTION? | | Buy the best and it will always be a good investment. That is one of the rules we have often heard. It is true of houses, especially dollhouses. Mary Merritt and her husband, Bob, had a doll and toy museum for many years and bought internationally for the collection. Part of the contents of the museum was auctioned last week and the prize dollhouse, a nineteenth-century Scottish building called Hope Villa, 55 inches wide by 37 inches tall, sold for an amazing $225,500. Could have bought a nice full-sized house for that amount. The sale by Noel Barrett was a huge success, bringing almost $2.5 million.
Have you ever sold anything at auction?
| | WAH Scams | | SCAMSBe Aware of the WAH SCAMS Doesn't it make you angry that some people make money by lying, deceiving others
and being dishonest? We all hate scams. Don't give them a penny of your money.
They make all sorts of claims and some even sound legitimate. Don't fall for them!
Here are some common scams.Envelope Stuffing- This one has been around for quite a while. But there are still
people who don't know about it and who fall for it. These ads are everywhere. They
claim you can make thousands of dollars a week just stuffing envelopes. Yeah right!
Sound too good to be true? Well it is! Think about it, who would pay you say $35 to
stuff and mail an envelope? No one! Here's how it works. They do not tell you exactly how this "business" works. (Red Flag)
You pay for the starter kit. The fees range from $25-$100. Then all you get is a letter
telling you to pass on the same scam to other people. It gives instructions for placing
ads and when someone falls for the scam, they pay you the fee and you pass along the
letter to them. Ugly cycle.Email Processing- Unfortunately most ads for email processing and data entry are
scams. This is... | |
| | What to get for 4 yr old and 2 yr old for Birthdays and Christmas? | | My two older children have birthdays on the 19th and 29th of this month. With Christmastime here too I am unsure what to get for them. Does anyone have any ideas? My oldest is getting a dollhouse and dolls for it for her birthday and my younger child will be getting 'shake and roll' cars and the track for them for his birthday. I would like to get them one or two more things each but am not sure what to get. | |

| | How does it make you feel when your parents talk about dying? | | My parents were having a disagreement earlier today and my mom said to my dad that we will be dead soon so why worry about the dollhouse their grandchildren wrecked. My dad was upset. I was upset and sad to hear my mom say that. Later my sister and my sister in law were talking about whether my mom and dad wanted to be cremated or buried and where. It was a depressing day for me, though I know eventually they will die. It was hard for me to take. I do not want to think about them dying anytime soon and would be sad and greatly miss them when they pass. I still think they have plenty of years left and they do not have any life threatening health problems right now. | |
| | | Things I bought this weekend while out at yard sales | | I spent this weekend going yard sale hopping with my best friend. I usually go with my husband, but he didn't get in from the road until last night.Friday I only went to one because one of the boys parents on my bus was having one. I bought three Dean Koontz hard cover books and a small wooden basket, all for $2.00Saturday, I bought three large Tupperware containers for $1.50 at one yard sale. At another I spent $1.25 for a Ken doll and another little baby doll big enough for a dollhouse.I spent $2 at the Friends for Animals yard sale and bought a large Tupperware bowl with no lid (I gave it to my best friend because she needed it), two Tupperware egg seperators, the newest hard cover Tami Hoag book, and a stack of comic books. This money all went to the Friends for Animals, so I was happy to help!I bought another Tupperware container and extra lids, and some decorative "books" and "glasses" for about $5 another yard sale.I bought a large container of mixed Legos and two pretty matching green and white containers for jewelry all for $3.We decided to go to a couple of thrift stores after that and I found a soap dish and a... | |
| | Bonsai Zokai On How It's Made | | I saw the episode with the Bonsai Zokai again today, and have decided to try it.
I have a book on making real Bonsai that has the rules of Bonsai in it, so I think I'll be able to create something cool. How many of you saw this episode?
It looks like it would cost little and be an interesting hobby/project.
From what I saw you'd need:
Floral wire
Floral tape
paper towels
modeling clay in grey and brown
Some kind of white tape, (perhaps first-aid tape)
Fake pine, cherry, or gardenia garlands that have small buds on them
Brown rice paper
Moss in three shades- dark green, light green, and coarse lightest green
Elmer's Glue
Green Floral Styrofoam (for the base) So far, it seems that it would cost around $25 dollars for all the materials. You might have some at home, and purchasing some of these things outside an Art Store would lower the price (IE: buying floral garland in a budget $1 store, having the Elmer's already, finding the moss at a hobby shop.)
I still don't know if the modeling clay sets up or if it remains flexible...this is a little problem, though. TO me it looked like regular non-setting modelling clay that is used on real Bonsai. So what...
